Recovery & Reset

Recovery is not the absence of work—it is an active process that restores cognitive capacity. Most high performers fail not because they lack skill, but because they never fully recover. Without deliberate recovery, each work session starts at a deficit. Reset is the practice of returning to baseline—mentally, physically, and emotionally—before the next demand arrives.

Recovery operates on three levels:
Micro Recovery—5- to 10 minute breaks between focused sessions. Step away, breathe, move.
Meso Recovery—full disconnection at the end of each workday. No screens, no problem-solving.
Macro Recovery—at least one full day per week with zero cognitive demands. This is not laziness—it is maintenance.
Rule: The quality of your next session is determined by how well you recovered from the last one.

A founder works 12-hour days for three weeks straight. Output drops, decisions worsen, creativity disappears. They add one rule: stop all work by 8 PM and take Sunday completely offline. Within two weeks, the quality of their morning sessions doubles. They did not work more—they recovered better.

Step 1—Look at your last 7 days. When did you fully disconnect from work—no thinking, no planning, no screens?
Step 2—Identify your current recovery pattern: Are you doing micro, meso, and macro recovery—or none?
Step 3—Choose one recovery practice to implement starting today:
A 10-minute walk after each deep work session.
A hard stop time at the end of your workday.
One full offline day this week.
Write your commitment before moving to the next module.

You do not perform on the energy you have today. You perform on the energy you protected yesterday.
